As I was saying, before we were rudely interrupted by a spate of posts by graffiti artistes, this is a forum devised to promote meaningful interaction on issues of common concern. We welcome post/comments that are enlightening, entertaining, evocative and issues-driven. Arguments are inevitable in any public forum. And an overwhelming majority of those accessing us need no guidelines for making their points persuasively, with civility.
Online brawls are not our style. Besides, they interest no one other than the few involved in them. No point getting into a blog fight over an issue that, anyway, gets noticed only by a limited few who surf the web. Besides, brawls leave a bitter taste that linger long after issues go away.
If we allow a bitter conflict that escalates into personal attacks to dominate our web space, readers get turned off; and they move on to any of the other 30 million odd blogs out there. As web moderator I chose to turn off this site some two weeks back, rather than let our sensitive readership desert us in disgust, never to return to our site.
Now we are back in business, in response to the advice of MyMysore enthusiasts, and because of something I heard someone say, and I quote, “if you can’t handle the odd few posting nasty bits online, quit blogging; and try the real world where they keep saying nasty things behind your back”.
Must concede that our experience with toxic spammers has cramped our style. We no longer claim to be an unfettered public forum. We were wrong in presuming our blogging community is matured enough to handle freedom of expression. From now on, any post/comment deemed out-of-bounds by the moderator can stay on this site only until it is detected for deletion.
Dear GVK Thanks for throwing the site open again. This is an experience for all of us. I have decided to accept only topic related posts on my blog and IGNORE all unrelated posts. I hope to have many more hours/years of good interactive blogging.
'Mymysore! welcome back! You've always been here, aren't you? Everybody needs a vacation ,after almost a year's hard work.
What's life without a bit of bouquet or an occasional brickbat as long as both are kept within limits! Mysore and Mysore is MADE for each other. Let's go! On all cylinders, that is!
I am glad the blog is revived. It provides a forum to inform and to learn if the opportunity is used with its real purpose of coming out with suggestions for improving Mysore which is now being pulled apart by various sectarian interests. Hopefully, the govt will heed the suggestions and act upon it. This will be possible if the govt plugs on to this blog and actively participate. Otherwise , the only method is to consolidate ideas generated and write either in the media or to the authorities concerned. Any sugestions? Thanks GVK
Hey great to see you all back on the blog. I am sure we still have the same enthusiasm to take part in the discussions, which are almost always interesting and lively.
