Our blank blogs
Permalink

Aviation may not be everyone’s cuppa. One of our bloggers said as much, in response to my mail seeking their thoughts of the bloggers on our list on a move to revamp the bloglist. Evidently, in its current format, Mymysore  blogs do not appear to hold out much appeal, even for the bloggers themselves. How else does one explain the conspicuous lack of interest, on the part of some, in making a start, even months after blogs have been set up for them?  Leaving a blog blank is a sure way to drive browsers away.

While it is true, as my fellow-blogger had it, that aviation isn’t everyone’s cup a tea, surprisingly, it is the special interests blogs, notably, Capt.Murthy’s, that have evoked critical response, judging by the number of comments that get posted. And then we have bloggers who have made a promising start, only to stay that way. I recall what Clive Thompson said about sharks while writing on blogging. A shark dies, if it stops moving, he says. So does a blog, if it is not updated often.

Certainly Mr.GVK,

Aviation is not every ones cuppa, but still I am eager to learn about different aspects of life, interests, professions etc. The only place I get the right mix is through the blogs. Consider my predicament. I try to do a new post at least twice a month. But considering the placement of my blog tag at the very bottom of the pile - which is below the first screen height - I doubt if any one is even seeing that tag.

Certainly, I would not like to remain underwater (like a live shark - under the first page height) but would like to come up on surface so that I get some views and probably some interaction.

No point in having blanks - either in guns or on blogs. They need to either be live or removed.

Nice fangs there on your emoticon, Mr. Madhukar. I can understand how you feel. I have started to ignore some of the names on the blog tabs simply because they have been inactive and it was a chore going through each one of them, realize they were dead (blog entries, I mean) and move on to the next. I wonder if the "dead ones" can be removed so that the live ones may flourish.

About aviation, my subject not being everyone's cuppa tea, I don't know about that because you'll see many comments (some very constructive ones) and questions from readers from diverse backgrounds and geographical locations. Mr. Madhukar knows this because I am fortunate to have his comments on my blog. If I can help someone make aviation their cuppa tea, I would consider myself fortunate.

Time to clear the deadwood, no offence meant to anyone, but unless you want your name to be on a website just for namesake, you'd be doing injustice to active bloggers such as Mr. Madhukar, Mr. Bapu Satyanarayana, Dr. Javeed, Mr. ER Ramachandran, Nanna Mysooru languishing in the middle or at the bottom of the pile. I am leaving myself and Mr. GVK out because we are at the top of the pile.

Oh, the usual suspects again. And I see names being named, by way of a line-up of active bloggers. There is a case for reordering the pile, as Mr Madhukar suggests. Must confess, it's my software technical incompetence that is holding up a revamp. Would comply before long (as soon as I can snatch my software-knowing son away, for an hour or so, from his office schedule, hectic touring, and stepped-up domestic duties following the arrival of a new member in the family).

As for 'active' blogging, Mr Madhukar, twice-a-month update may be okay to keep the 'shark' alive. To have him really kicking, and swimming-fit, more frequent posts would help, as Capt.Murthy can tell you.

Speaking of blogging, I would like to share with you something I read in Wired.com that says, 'You, To, Can Right Like a Blogger'.

Thanks Mr. GVK for the kind thought of reordering the pile. That should work.
I know that twice a month schedule to keep the blog alive and not really kicking is a little less. But my predicament is that I have to accomodate some time for this in between my official work. I blog from my office as I do not have the space nor the facility for an internet connection.
Also the fact that I have been off the air for more than 5 year has made me a little rusty on the topics, trends and activities of the hobby. I am in the process of getting back to the old level of activity within the next few days.
Will certainly try to increase the frequency of the posts.
I am sure Capt. Murthy's Blog is the envy of every blogger. The kind and number of posts that his blog is getting, is really a matter of pride for a relatively new site like mymysore.com.

That's candid. Wonder how the office would take it, if they get to read it.

Something we can celebrate, Mr Boot. Though I wish we refrain from 'screaming' about it, in big bold letters.

I am bemused at how communication goes awry most of the time. Well, I have ended up conveying something that was just not on mind when I used that bold typeface. It was just that I wanted some of our other silent bloggers to sit up and take notice. I didn't mean to be loud - as I apparently made myself understood, Mr. GVK - so as to draw any attention on myself. Sorry for the perceived misdemeanour.

Dear Dino (I think, as a cricketer, you will like the wrong spelling),

I have had this problem earlier. A click on the refresher icon has helped at times.

Dear GVK

No problems on the use of official computer for personal purposes. We have an IT policy where in limited use of official infrastructure for personal use is allowed as long as it is not criminal or clandestine. This personal use should not hinder with the offical duties.

Personal emails are also allowed through a firewalled server.

Advantages of working for a liberal Multinational company.

Dear Dinu (As a brother I cannot misspell the name)

All the posts have been listed as part of your profile with additional blog links.
For the blogs to appear as part of the blog tab linked to mymysore.com you have to login to your dinakar konanur blog space and in the new posts write a small message and provide a link to the particular alternate blog.
Otherwise you will have to make a new post with the same title after copying and pasting in this blog.

Had deliberately mis-spelt, following the previous post!

Viji, I can understand your wonderment! Anup also had no time to mention that during our BBB-meet.

Had also informed GVK if a change was possible (blog) at his end instead of me copying -- it takes a lot of my 'cyberslacking' time whatwith snail-speed 'puters. But that mail has no response as yet.

Thought I had answered your query, Mr Dinakar. Do you have a problem posting entries on your blog page ? I can't figure out what you mean by copy/pasting from other blogs. Surely, you can  give a link to all your other blogs in mymysore blog page. We look forward to your fresh entries in your MyMysore blog page.

To all blog readers: Go to Mr. Dinakar's blog page and click on "view my profile". In that page, you'll find many articles posted by Mr. Dinakar. I guess he is trying to get those posts out of that page and make them appear on the main blog page. Anyone know how?

Click on the "BLOGGER" logo on the left-top corner of the blog.

This takes you to www.blogger.com

Sign in with username = dinakarkonanur , and password = dinakarkonanur. (Note: your user name as well as the password has been kept the same, for your convenience.)

The sign-in leads you to the DASHBOARD screen

On the DASHBOARD screen, showing your blog name, Click on the logo underneath "NEW POST."

Type your message and, when complete, click on "Publish Post."

Click on "Republish the entire blog'

If the text does not show up on blog page, click 'Refresh'; and it works in most cases.

This message was sent to Mr Dinakar when his blog page was created in January last.He has apparently been posting entries that do not show up because:

1) Each entry has been posted by creating a separate blog page..

2) To copy/paste them on a single thread I tried to open in vain 'Edit page' of Mr Dinakar's blog with the username/password given above. No luck

3) Reason: Incorrect password. Have you changed it, by any chance, Mr Dinakar ?

Yes, I had changed the PW. But I have put all my blogs which can be found as Anup suggests.

Do you have a problem, Mr dinakar, posting entries so that they are visible on your Mymysore blog, instead of docketing them in separate blogs?

No problem. Have added a few more today.

I don't think I had made myself clear. What I hoped for was that Mr Dinakar would consolidate all items in our standardised blog format. Would have preferred if matters such as design and formating had been left to the web-host. We don't have a newspaper with each columnist deciding his own page make-up, do we? It is a matter of form.

I understand some of us want to look different. Speaking for Mr Dinakar, I would say his eminently readable items do not need cosmetic effect to attract readership. All that his blog needs is to be reader-friendly.

What I have done is create a separate blog for each of my write-ups since they are all unconnected with each other.

Almost missed Dr. Javeed Nayeems new blog because his link is deep down the list with a lot of unused blogs in-between. At the risk of offending someone who would like to keep his blog on the page for whatever reason, other than blogging obviously, i appeal to the site master to de-link those blogs that are unused. That would make it easier for readers to read their favoutite blogs such as Dr. Javeed's. Thanks very much.

GVK  am glad thgat your provocation elicited so many varied responses. May be you can make a pen sketch of them for it gives a clue for their personality. Oh yes I have not been active and may be everyone of us goes through this syndrome of temporary hibernation. But be sure the blogs will not be blank
