If Dr Devapriya Galagali of Yadavagiri has his way, he would turn his neibourhood pink during Tabebuia blossom time, in five years’ time. That is how long the tree would take for flowering, says Dr. K Javeed Nayeem. It was his Star of Mysore column that triggered Dr Galagali’s thoughts on having the street in front of his house planted with tabebuias. It is a popular street tree in some tropical cities; and its roots are not particularly aggressive towards roads and sidewalks. The yellow variety is Venezuela’s national tree.
Dr.Galagali who adopted Mysore as his town, after a career that took him to many places abroad, is an anaesthetist, not a tree planter. But then he dropped in the other day at Dr Nayeem’s place to talk tree-plantation, over a cup of evening tea; tabebuias planting, to be specific, in his Yadavagiri neighbourhood. In his column Dr Nayeem had referred to the blooming pink tabebuias in Mysore.
Dr. Galagali sought second opinion from Dr Nayeem – If the Yadavagiri street were to turn pink, would it beat the Japanese cherry in bloom? “I’m sure it will,” said Dr Nayeem giving his considered opinion. In his latest column the doctor wishes the doctor all success, and expresses the hope that more such concerned citizens get motivated, to make Mysore greener (or pink, should we say).

RE: Dr. Galagali’s plan for Yadavgiri / Ketamine Anesthesia
Dr Galagali as a professional Anesthesiologist (Anesthetist, as British call) has contributed considerably towards popularising
Ketamine Anesthesia (which he calls "Keatmine Cocktail) which is a type of Intravenous Genaral Anesthesia. In the last few decades he has used this technic of General Anesthesia for around 20k patients. This drug produces dissociative type of anesthesia, produces excellent analgesia (pain relief) and sustains / stimulates / maintains good cardio - respiratory function. Adjuvant agents agents are used to reduce / eliminate side effects like hallucinations and dreams during he recovery.
This thechnic of general anesthesia uses all medications required by intravenous route with predictable effect appearing in about one minute and recovery time of about 15 minutes initial depth of anesthesia; this can be continued for hours, keepingthe patients under light planes but with good pain control. Patients can be awake, communicative. This does not require oxygen supplement; patiens are not subjected to endo tracheal intubation.
Ketamine anesthesia is good for almost all routine general surgery, obstetric, orthopedic, ophthalmic, painful burn dressings in the wards etc where great amount of muscle relaxation is not required.
Dr Galagali has been a pioneer in making ketamine anesthesia.
